Walk Into New Opportunities in 2023

In this issue of our monthly newsletter, we put front doors front and center...

With a New Year, it means a fresh start. Some people like to make resolutions about eating healthier, exercising more, or spending less time on their phones. Meanwhile, your house is usually the last thing on your mind when making these resolutions. However, first impressions of your house can set the tone for the rest of your home.

What is the first thing you see when you go to a new house; the front door. Some doors are painted with energetic bright colors, like teal, orange, or even pink. Other doors go for more of a rich elegance with colors like navy blue, dark green, or stained a dark brown. Then there are the classics colors, white, stained wood and natural wood. All of these colors represent how the inside of your house will look. For example, if there are energetic colors on the door, there is most likely going to be a lot of different colors on the walls inside of the house. That is because the front door shows that the homeowner is not afraid of color. However, paint is only the base layer of this first impression.

The next layer would be a door sign. A door sign can add warmth and a sense of welcome beginning at your front door. It can be as simple as a sign that says “Welcome” or as complex as you want with bows, florals, and lighting. If you don’t want people to stay too long, there are even some door signs for that. For example, get a sign that says “Welcome-ish, depends on who you are” or “Welcome, Please leave by 9:00”. As adults, I think we can all relate to these funny door sign. Whatever sign you choose, make sure it reflex’s your personality. As these signs will also give a clue to what the inside of your house looks like.

Another layer for the first impressions is the front steps. When people come and ring your door bell, they usually take a step back and wait on a little platform area. While you are running around trying to figure out who could be at your front door, your guest is waiting outside, looking around for something to do while they wait for you to answer the door. You might as well give them something to look at. This could be something as simple as some greenery, alive or fake, depending on how green your thumb is. On the other hand, you could decorate with some holiday décor items, to remind your guest of what season we are in. Either way, it’ll show the personality of your home.

With this fresh start, remember how much first impressions can make an impact.
